That’s awesome and great to hear! The route page that you’re commenting on can be a bit windy and is typically used by road cyclists looking to get in some extra mileage or travel from one side of the island to the other. This section runs near a busy road with the bike path to the side of the main road.

For our e-bike rentals, we think there are some much more enjoyable rides right from our shops! We rent e-bikes at all three of our locations: Paia, Kihei, and Kapalua. The best place to rent depends on which areas of the island you’d like to explore.

Paia (North Shore): One of the only bike paths on the island starts near our Paia location. If you’re looking to get off the roads and enjoy a more relaxed ride, this is the one to do! You’ll also get to explore some hidden beaches that many visitors never discover by car.

Kapalua (West Maui): There’s a wonderful coastal frontage road with beautiful beaches and several great options for exploring the area.

Kihei (South Maui): From our Kihei shop, you can enjoy a great ride south toward La Perouse.

Keep in mind that the Kapalua and La Perouse routes do share the road with cars. Traffic generally isn’t moving too fast, but bike lanes and shoulders aren’t always available.

Check out this link with the State department of transportation. This program was put in place in 2023 so you may want to reach out make sure that they’re still accepting and funding. Yes, you can definitely rent an ebike for this and bring the spare battery. One set back is the spare battery takes one water bottle spot. Also, there are veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy few places to charge up. So the likely hood that you will have battery to last the whole time is unlikely and completely depends on many factors including weight, experience, battery saving/consuming so not using it the whole time. Lots to factor in …but not many places to plug.

A 20-minute FTP number alone doesn’t tell the whole story — body weight, endurance durability, pacing, altitude tolerance, and climbing experience matter too. You sound like a strong rider so with proper pacing you should be good. From my experience listining to all rider types….those who have climbed 5000′ may take them 5-8 hrs climb. 7-8k+ under their belts takes riders 4-6 hours to climb. Most pro-level riders are in around 3-4.5 hrs. Think about how trained you are today and add in your experience. With the right pacing and nutrition its not if you can finish…its whats you time goal to complete it. There’s just so many variables to apply to your personal experience.

To rent bikes for the bike path we have bikes for all ages. We have burley trailers, 12″, 16″, 20″, 24″ bikes to choose from for the kids! This is a public bike path for everyone locals and visitors.
