Itinerary Overview
1. Check-In at Our Pāʻia Shop (8:45 AM)
Start your day in the laid-back North Shore surf town of Pāʻia. Our team will welcome you and get you ready with a comprehensive safety briefing and professional gear fitting. You’ll be outfitted with a helmet, gloves, rain/wind gear, a backpack, and a high-performance bike.
2. Scenic Van Tour to 6,500 Feet
Enjoy a comfortable 45-minute narrated drive through Upcountry Maui. Along the way, your guide will share local history, volcanic landscapes, cultural insights, and insider tips.
3. Start Your Bike Ride (First Lap)
Begin your ride at 6,500 ft, just outside Haleakalā National Park—the highest legal starting point. Cruise the most scenic 6.5-mile section of the downhill ride, known for sweeping switchbacks, cool mountain air, and panoramic ocean views.
4. Double Down – Ride It Again
Guests often say they wish they could do this section again—so now you can. Re-load and ride the same iconic stretch a second time for a total of 13 miles of exhilarating downhill riding.
5. Upcountry Taproom Tasting Experience
After your ride, enjoy a 15-minute shuttle to the Lāhainā Brewing Co. Upcountry Taproom, now bringing together the former Mahalo Aleworks and Kohola Brewing brands. Relax with a 1-hour tasting, including one drink, with options like craft beer, wine, cider, hard kombucha, and non-alcoholic beverages. Local food trucks are located right next door for an optional lunch.
6. Scenic Shuttle Return via Haliʻimaile
Sit back and enjoy a 20-minute scenic shuttle through Haliʻimaile and Maui’s lush Upcountry back to Pāʻia. Guests return around 1:30 PM, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day.

HALEAKALA Bike & BRew REVIEWS
Absolutely awesome experience. Great, friendly staff. The tour was about 45 min drive up with a great guide who had a lot of cool facts about the island. They sized the bikes up perfectly, great bikes for their purpose. single speed bikes, 99% of the tour is downhill, only peddled for MAYBE 50 yards of the route. They had some great recommendations for places to stop on they way down. A MUST stop is the Rodeo General Store in Makawao. Get the Poke.
I highly recommend the self paced downhill Haleakala bike ride from Maui Sunriders. I’ve been coming to Maui for years and try to book a ride with them whenever I’m here. Jeff is very helpful and friendly and their equipment is in good shape for the demands of the downhill ride. They provide a map, bike lock, bag, raincoat, and helmet for the ride so you really just need to bring a camera and water. Always a good time, I never get tired of this bike ride and highly recommend it!
What a great time! I have zero complaints. Our driver and he was amazing! Full of knowledge and had a great sense of humor. It is self guided which was great compared to prior times that I’ve done guided tours with other companies. We were able to stop and check out shops, have lunch, take pictures and just take it all in. We will be back!
BEST DAY EVER! One of the best things we did on our vacation was booking a tour with Maui Sun Riders! My wife was a bit intimidated at first but ended up loving every minute of it. There is nothing to be scared of unless you don’t like amazing views, awesome people and a really good time. I would highly recommend this to just about anyone! I’d do this again in a heartbeat!
