MAUI Cruiser ROUTES
NORTH SHORE/UPCOUNTRY
PAIA – NORTH SHORE BIKE PATH – Ho’okipa
(BEGINNER – Intermediate)
The newly completed North Shore Bike Path runs from Paia to Kanaha Beach Park. This FLAT 5-6 mile EACH way/ 10-12 mile round trip bike path is an easy cruiser ride for all riders. A mainly flat trail that passes some of the best beaches on Maui’s North Shore. This ride is less about the cruiser path and more about the hidden beaches you can discover along the way. While this path doesn’t go along the ocean, there will still be some nice beach views. You will be provided a map and can seek the beaches out for a unique North Shore experience. This is a great way to spend the day cruising to the different beaches to swim, enjoy the food trucks or pack a lunch to enjoy at Kanaha Beach park. Keep in mind to get on and off the bike path from our shop you can either ride the road with cars (no bike lane) for 0.4 miles or walk the sidewalk through town. For true beginner riders – you will want to walk through town to the start of the bike path. As an additional route option for intermediate+ riders who are comfortable riding next to cars can enjoy a beautiful bike lane on the hwy/road with coastal views out to Ho’okipa Beach Park. This add-on is a 2.5 mile EACH way / 5 mile round trip ride with some rolling hills. Please note you will have to cross Hana Hwy to access Ho’okipa park so this is only for experienced riders. Cars are generally driving at 25-30mph and is a popular route for people going and returning from Hana.
PAIA – Makawao – Haiku Loop
(Advanced)
The beginning of this ride is the classic first 7 miles of the climb up to the summit of Haleakala. Enjoy the twists and turns of this beautiful country road that climbs into downtown Makawao. Makawao is our paniolo cowboy town full of great shopping, eating and more. Make a left at Makawao and head out towards Haiku and enjoy a beautiful descent into Haiku town. Enjoy lunch at one of the several food trucks and continue on down to the hwy. You will be on the coastal side of Hana Hwy soaking up the views all the way back to Paia. This route is about 20 miles and 2000′ of climbing. Advanced ride: Please be aware there is no shoulder on the road and you must ride in the lane of traffic on the climb and the descent. You will be crossing Hana hwy and we urge you to use caution. As always please be courteous to all vehicles by sharing the road and letting them pass.
South Maui: Wailea – Kihei
(Beginner – Intermediate)
There are some beautiful roads to explore along the coast out towards La Perouse. Start early to avoid high winds. In some areas you can ride on quiet side streets. Most of the rides around here will be in a bike lane on the road with vehicles. This is a popular road for people accessing Makena State beach and other beaches around the area. If you are in Kihei/Wailea we highly recommend a 3 speed, 7 speed or e-bike as there are many rolling hills. Kihei is more flat and you could get away with a single speed if you don’t plan on venturing very far.
